Horse Racing Handicapping Methods Using Pace and Speed or Class in Combination

If you're looking for a handicapping method that will evaluate runners and put you on horses that will make a profit over the long run, you'll have to determine which factors to use. The problem is that all horse races are not the same. We know that pace is different depending on the surface that the race is going on, but what combination of pace and speed or class do we use to raise one horse higher?

Start with the notion of a hierarchy as a way of determining the fair value that a horse should return. In order to arrive at that value you have to know to what degree a horse outshines the other horses. It's confusing at times because while one horse may match the pace scenario better than another it may lack class.

When you're making your comparisons you're asking yourself, "Which is more important, class or speed or pace?" That's the problem. The horse that stands head and shoulders above the others in all categories will go to post at ridiculously low odds and won't be much of a bet. It's hard to get enthusiastic about a runner at 1-5 odds. We all look for the horse that appears to be undervalued by the crowd, but let's face it, they do a pretty good job of pricing horses.

I've found that on the speed favoring dirt tracks in North America speed and pace are almost synonymous. The horse that can establish and early lead will often dominate and hold off any late threats. We've seen it many times, the horse that the public feels is the cheap speed in the race goes to the front and never looks back. Another likely scenario is a cheap speedster that manages to rate behind two classier opponents and passes them in the stretch once they've exhausted each other.

Therefore, before I rate a class horse I want to know that it actually has won at the distance and track. It may be classy, but if it isn't built to win at the distance a speed horse with pace may manage to win even though it looks inferior on paper because it hasn't run against the same caliber horses that the class horse has faced. Don't make the mistake of over rating a horse because it won a lot more money. That is impressive, but you must answer the question of where and when it won that money.

If the races it won were on a different surface or if it is a router and today's race is a sprint, you may find better value on a more mundane runner that matches the track model.

How To Gain Weight And Build Muscle

If you've set the goal to focus on building more lean muscle mass to reshape your body, there are many different elements that you're going to want to consider.

Many people think that all they have to do is walk into a gym and pick up a few weights, but building muscle is much more than just that.

More and more men are seeing the covers of magazines and striving to look like the ideal 'model' that graces the cover but in their quest, they're approaching their workouts and diet in the wrong manner.

Let's have a look at some simple tips that you should remember to help you build muscle more effectively and reach your end goal.

Getting Your Diet In Order

The very first thing that you must do is make sure that your diet is in order. Simply put, if you're not feeding your body the quality nutrients it needs to generate more lean muscle mass, you'll be facing a losing battle. You can't build muscle out of thin air, so the right food at the right time is imperative.

First, start making sure you consume at least three meals each day and with each of these meals, take in a high quality source of protein such as chicken, lean beef, fish, eggs, low fat dairy products, or seafood. Along with this, pair together a slower digesting carbohydrate source such as oatmeal, potatoes, whole wheat pasta, or brown rice. These will supply your body with the energy it needs to get through your workouts as well as complete the muscle building process.

Fat is also important when trying to build muscle in moderate amounts because it's necessary to keep your testosterone levels higher and will also help you get your calorie intake up high enough to promote lean muscle mass gains.

Focus on the healthy fats that come from olive oil, nuts and seeds, fatty fish, flaxseeds, and avocado. These are going to promote healthy much better than saturated fat or trans fat varieties. Omega fats are especially important to take in and will be found in fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts.

Finally, make sure that you add some fresh fruits and vegetables to your meal plan as well. You don't want to overdo the volume on these as they will fill you up quickly and don't provide all that many calories, but three or four servings of fruits and a few servings of vegetables each day will ensure you maintain proper health.

After you've formed your diet, stick with it for two weeks and if you aren't seeing muscle growth, start doubling up on some of your servings to boost your calorie intake higher. Likewise, if you're gaining fat while building muscle, reduce your food intake slightly as this indicates that you're consuming just a few too many calories total.

Finally, be sure to stay adequately hydrated to promote optimal energy levels and cleanse the body. Aim for 1.5 liters of water per day taking in another 2-3, 8 oz. glasses around the workout period.

Being Smart With Your Workouts

Moving on to the workout side of things, make sure that you are lifting with intensity. If you want to build muscle, you need to give your body a reason to build that new muscle mass.

Focus on performing compound exercises primarily, which are movements that will work multiple muscle groups all at once. Good examples of this include the bench press, squat, deadlifts, shoulder presses, bent over rows, pull-ups, push-ups, lunges, leg press, and step-ups.

Pick two exercises per muscle group and aim to complete 4-8 sets total amongst those two exercises.
In addition to that, if you're looking for power development, aim for 3-6 reps per set performed while if you're aiming for pure size growth, take it a little higher up to 6-12 reps per set.

If you're someone who wants to focus on muscular endurance, then aiming for 12-20 reps per set will be ideal.
Try and devise a program plan that allows you to work each muscle group two to three times per week, making sure that you take at least one day off between working each muscle group and one day off for complete rest each week.

If you can put all of these tips together with your approach while making sure that you're getting at least eight hours of sleep each night to boost your recovery and muscular repair, it won't be long before you have a new body looking back at you in the mirror.

Horse Racing Handicapping Factors for Turf or Dirt Races Are Not Always the Same

When we handicap horse races we use factors or attributes to evaluate the horses and estimate each runner's chance of winning. Races run on dirt often shape up differently than races that are run on turf. The first place to start estimating the value of each handicapping factor is to study your local track or the venues that you play. For instance, the inner turf course at Belmont plays differently than the Widener Turf Course.

Playing horses with early speed on the inner turf course at Belmont makes sense because the front runners fare well. Therefore, pace is one of the two top factors in the dynamics of the race. Speaking of racing dynamics, the dynamics of a race are what actually happens while the horses are in motion and the race is being run. Pace is a way of estimating position and energy during the contest.

Pace is important in all races, but those horses that can set good early fractions and have a little in the tank to finish the race are likely candidates to win on tracks such as the inner turf course and most dirt tracks. On other turf courses the pace scenario, while important, is often much different. Slow early fractions and a leisurely pace lead to a furious charge at the end of the race. In those races class and speed are more important.

Class horses win on turf when it appears they are overmatched by a speed ball. Cheap early speed steals many more races on the dirt than on turf where heavier going leads to fatigue late in the race. Some jockeys do try to steal turf routes by getting so far ahead they can't be caught, but that racing strategy rarely works. Once again, if you know how your turf course plays you'll have a better chance of spotting horses that fit the race model.

Another sometimes overlooked angle is to have a list of sires who produce winners on a particular track. The progeny of some sires seem to do well on certain courses and knowing which horses should get special consideration due to their sire is helpful. When handicapping dirt races that may still be the case.

Dirt races and speed go together well. Using speed figures alone won't keep you in the black as a handicapper, but they do matter. Combining speed and pace is the best way to overcome the challenge of mastering race dynamics on dirt. Class still matters, but if I could only use two of the three factors, class, speed, and pace when handicapping on dirt, I'd choose speed and pace.

Horse Racing Strategy for Using Public Handicappers and Angles

We've all seen the public handicappers and the consensus. The question is, can they really help your handicapping? The handicappers each choose a hierarchy of three horses and the higher on the list, the higher the score for the horse. For instance, a horse chosen as the top horse gets five points. If it's chosen as that handicapper's best bet of the day, it may get seven points. After the panel of handicappers chose their picks for the day each horse gets a score.

What usually then happens is that the horses with higher scores go to post at very low odds. In some races that are more difficult to handicap there may be five or six horses that find their way into the hierarchies. While in races where the fields are short or there aren't many contenders there may be just three horses that are chosen.

I always advocate thinking for yourself, but it doesn't hurt to read the comments that the public handicappers make because some of them do offer good insight and sometimes will mention something you've missed. The problem for the erstwhile prognosticator who reads those opinions and the attached consensus is that if you do wager on a horse that gets high marks you won't get a very good price, but if you take a flyer on a horse that isn't on the public handicapper's radar, you'll be going out on a limb for a long shot.

So what is the best play when looking for value? Usually it pays to make your own choices, but if you must rely on the picks of others I suggest looking for a horse that is low on pints but has a good angle that the handicapper picked up on. If only one horse picker chose that one it probably means that he or she is trying to score a big one that will give him or her bragging rights and increase media presence and credibility. Following such a handicapper may lead to more good bets as well.

If he or she only picks that one for third place it could mean that it's only thrown in there in case it wins. But if the prognosticator actually picks it for first place on the panel, that's a very good sign. If three handicappers are going with the same horse and your longshot picker goes with another horse, that horse may very well be a live longshot and worth a very long second look, but as I said earlier, think for yourself. Look the horse over carefully.

Horse Racing: The Secret Of Thinking Big Money And Not Thinking Small Money

The secret of thinking big money and not thinking little money is a frame of mind the player need to have if he or she is to make big money. The mass majority of players that consider Return On Investment (ROI) in racing usually consider making a few hundred dollars in profit over a few wagers spent. Or an ROI of a few cents or nickles on the dollars. There's another way which is as simple and straight forward but much more powerful. This is the case where you intend to play racing as a job or career and play 1,000's of races over several or more years and not as a pass time.

An example: in the course of 10 years exact at any major track in the USA when the money is summed for all wager types for such a time period it adds into more than several millions of dollars. If you sum the total for 4-5 major tracks it reaches over $30,000,000 for that same period. $30,000,000: THAT'S REAL NAVY, SON! If you're thinking about getting 5%-70% of that then you're thinking big money, big business and not gambling. Why? Because you'll never see the day when gambling will net you that type of money. You need design and not luck.

Thinking small money will not do so either. And you can put your money down on that and win. The secret of thinking big money and not thinking small money in racing is to think big money in the right way. To repeat: the right way. Of course you can play the pick 6 and get lucky but you can't repeat it at will. It was just an accident. The money is just as real of course. There's a way to know statistically and of seeing the game a certain way. There's a way to create a flexible firm plan.

An example of Return On Investment or ROI. In one year exact you put $500 in A and $600 in B investments. You get back $75 on A and $90 on B in profits. Turn each into a fraction and turn each into a percent. Such as: $75/$500 = 15% and $90/$600 = 15% respectively. Another example: in one year exact you put $1,000 each into investments A and B. You get back $75 and $90 respectively in profit. Turn A and B into fractions and turn each into a percent. Such as: $75/$1,000 = 7.5% and $90/$1,000 = 9% respectively. This is called rate of return.

To obtain a large percent of that money and the way to do that is to know and practice handicapping and profitcapping very well. Handicapping is predicting the order of finish positions of races well. Profitcapping is predicting the profit to be made from the in money positions from wager types and the payouts over months and years while dealing with each race on an individual and personal one on one basis. Don't seek to make a few hundred dollars but 100's of 1,000's of dollars or a few millions of dollars. For this you need a business, a statistical and a thinking big money view-point. This is partially the secret of thinking big money and not thinking small money.
